Gopalen Parthiben Chellapermal is a Mauritian producer/director. He wrote the screenplay for the short film "Bisanvil" (Audience Award at Amiens in 2005 and Jury Prize at Réunion in 2006). After directing his first short film, "Ruz," in 2009, he directed the documentaries "Les Mo'zars de Roche Bois" ('Fe Net Indian Ocean' Documentary Award, FIFAI, Réunion), "Gangway," and "Mo'zar... de Roche Bois à la Havane," among others. He continued his directing and production work with the short film "Daïnes" in 2020 (Official Selection at FESPACO 2022 and the Vues d'Afrique International Film Festival in Montreal). He has also directed two documentaries: “Philippe Thomas, Jazz on the Tip of the Lips” – 2020 (52 minutes) and “We Are All Migrants” – 2023 (62 minutes), both official selections at FESPACO 2025 in the “Critics’ Week” section. Through his films, he explores the connections between memory, collective history, and personal narratives. His work combines documentary and fictional approaches while adopting a poetic sensibility, striving to create hybrid forms that give voice to the marginalized and the silenced. Gopalen develops a body of fictional work centered on memory and identity. |
